Several events could bring one of the busiest weekends to valley

This could be one of the busiest weekends in the Coachella Valley. Thousands from out of town and in the area will be out and about for events like Modernism Week, Tour de Palm Springs and the Riverside County Fair & NationalDate Festival. All of the events have hotels from Palm Springs to Indio at capacity.

“We have absolutely no vacancy in fact we are slightly oversold anticipating some cancellations,” said General Manager of the Hilton in Palm Springs,Aftab Dada.

Dada said the hotel is expecting people from 44 states and five different countries.

People we talked to around Palm Springs say it seemed more crowded than usual.

“It does seem busy the streets are full I’ve been walking up and down and I notice so many people out and about,” said Veronica Jones visiting from Kentucky,

Together, Modernism Week and the Tour de Palm Springs are expected to bring more than 50,000 people to the area. On the other side of the valley, the Date Festival is hoping to see around 300,000 people over the next 10 days.

You can expect everything from musical pageants to camel and ostrich races at the fair, plus a few new things.

“We have the marvelous mutt show, which is a new dog show,” said festival Marketing Manager, Kimberly Douglas. “We’re using all rescued animals so we’re excited to have them here and we have a Pollywood Bird Show. They’re new to the fair as well this year.”

Everyone we talked to agreed one thing in particular is driving people out and about to events.

“The weather is so gorgeous it’s nice,” concluded Jones. “I came from Louisville Kentucky and it’s 21 degrees there so this is much better.”
