Woman identified after deadly motorcycle crash in Idyllwild

A 29-year-old Moreno Valley woman was killed in a traffic collision Saturday morning after her motorcycle crossed into opposing traffic on Highway 74.

According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, Ashley Shin was driving a Honda CR6 westbound on Highway 74, just west of McCall Park Road, when she crossed the double yellow lines, colliding head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet van at about 11:15 a.m.

Shin died at the scene of the crash.

The van was driven by a 56-year-old woman from Idyllwild. She was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s release.

Deputies said it’s unknown at this time why Shin crossed into opposing traffic. Weather wasn’t a factor but alcohol and/or drugs haven’t been ruled out as possible factors at this time.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate.

News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will provide more information pending the outcome of the investigation.
