Local HS teams make CIF regional soccer tournament, Warburton Tournament raises over $1M

Only one local boys soccer team claimed a CIF-SS championship, and it continues its play, along with two others teams that thought their seasons were over.

The CIF Regional Southern California Boys Soccer Championships invited La Quinta (Div. I), Rancho Mirage (Div. IV), and West Shores (Div. V) to play for the right to earn a CIF SoCal championship.

La Quinta earned a 5-seed, and will face 4-seed Torrey Pines on Tuesday at 6:30pm in San Diego.

Rancho Mirage, who was eliminated in the CIF-SS playoffs, was awarded the final seed in Division IV championships. The Rattlers will go to top-seeded Coronado on Tuesday at 4pm.

West Shores, who was also eliminated in the CIF-SS semifinals, was given the overall top-seed in Division V. The Wildcats earned a bye, and will play either New Community Jewish or Academia Avance on Thursday at West Shores High School.

In golf, the Patrick Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament wrapped up its two-day event at the Classic Club, raising money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Celebrities like Alice Cooper, Sterling Sharpe, and Paula Trickey hit the links, to name a few.

All the events over the past eight days raised $1,120,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
