Firefighters attack Sterling Fire in San Bernardino foothills

Firefighters have their hands full in the San Bernardino mountains as another wildfire has ignited in addition to the Lake Fire.

The Sterling Fire was reported just before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and it has grown to 100 acres. Fortunately, fire crews already had the blaze 50% contained as of Friday afternoon.

The Sterling Fire is burning in the foothills north of San Bernardino. Officials said it burned north from the end of Sterling Avenue into the San Bernardino National Forest. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Similar to the Lake Fire, drones temporarily halted air tanker operations early Thursday evening, but officials said firefighting efforts resumed shortly afterward. The first drone was interfering with fire operations and hasn’t been located. A second drone was reported by a concerned citizen, but after reviewing video footage, officials determined the second drone was not interfering with the firefight.

A Call Center has been set up for anyone requesting additional information about the Sterling Fire: (909) 383-5688.
