Traffic crawls near Desert Center after rollover crash

A truck driver was injured and traffic snarled for more than four hours when a tractor-trailer rig overturned on a freeway near Desert Center early Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at 4:55 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 10, west of Ford Dry Lake, Cal Fire Riverside spokeswoman April Newman said. Firefighters arrived to find the truck overturned, blocking one of two eastbound lanes, and about five gallons of diesel fuel on the ground, she said.

The driver of the truck managed to free himself from the wreckage and was treated for moderate injuries. The truck was hauling an unknown flammable liquid which did not leak.

One eastbound lane remained open up until the crash site where traffic was able to move passed the wreckage using the shoulder of the interstate.
