Firefighters extinguish house fire in Coachella

The Riverside County Fire Department and Cal Fire was called to a house fire in Coachella late Friday morning.

Officials said a home caught fire in the 53200 block of Calle Camacho just after 11 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the roof of the house. There was nobody home at the time.

The fire was contained in about 15 minutes but the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department had to evacuate a neighbor whose home was also threatened by the fire, according to Cal Fire.

Officials said they called in more crews so they could swap out firefighters because of the extreme heat.

Nobody injuries were reported. Officials are looking into the damage totals and investigating the cause of the fire. Utility crews were called to the scene due to downed power lines in the area.

Smoke could be seen from Interstate 10.

Authorities said fire units will be on scene for several hours for mop up duties.
