National Weather Service confirms it was a small tornado
The National Weather Service now confirms a small tornado touched down in the Mecca area last Thursday night toppling more than 100 power poles.
The tornado was an EF1 with winds up to 105 miles per hour.
The stormed damaged transmission lines causing power outages that impacted 6,000 customers at one point in Thermal, Mecca, Oasis and La Quinta.
