Excessive heat sending people indoors

With temperatures in the Coachella Valley possibly hitting 117 degrees in some places more people will be spending time indoors running the air conditioner.

Temperatures this high can be dangerous, especially for visitors who aren’t used to the desert heat.

“Right now it’s extremely hot, back home in Rhode Island it’s very humid though so it’s different it humid and 90 but out here it’s like dry heat so it’s like walking through a blow dryer,” said Nicole Miller who just moved to Palm Desert.

There are plenty of places to beat the heat and have fun in the valley.

“They have that new rock climbing place which is really cool. They have Rock-N-Roll Mini Golf which is really cool because it’s near we live, said Lacey Coonrod of Indio.

If you want to try your hand at Rock-N-Roll Mini Golf in La Quinta, you better plan a trip soon, they are going out of business at the end of the month.

And there is nothing cooler than lacing up some skates and hitting the ice.

We caught up with some people ice skating at Desert Ice Castle in Cathedral City.

“You’re outside, it’s over 100 degrees, and you’re sweating, then you step inside it’s this icy blast of refreshing air,” said John Bennett who is visiting from Texas.

Even if you plan on staying cool in air conditioning for most of the day, you still need to be careful and stay hydrated.

“I drink a lot of water and I notice as a professional athlete, people don’t get enough water they need to hydrate and in this kind of weather it can be deadly,” said Shepard Clark, professional figure skater.

If you want to stay cool and not spend much money, you can always go to a cooling center.
