Here’s the back story: On July 25, 2015 around 6:05 p.m., officers from the Indio Police Department (IPD) responded to a 911 emergency call regarding a 20 year-old Hispanic female that had just been shot at the Casa Las Valles Apartment (81840 Avenida Del Mar) in the city of Indio.
The female suffered a single through and through gunshot wound to the right leg. The victim was treated and released at a local hospital.
Detectives from IPD began to do follow-up investigation and determined that the victim’s boyfriend Lawrence “Little Chubs” Moreno (25 years-old from Coachella) was the suspect.
Moreno is a documented Coachella gang member (VCR) and was on active parole wearing a GPS ankle bracelet at the time of the incident.
On July 30, 2015, detectives from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Coachella Special Investigation Unit arrested Moreno on Tripoli Way in the city of Coachella.
Moreno was interviewed by IPD regarding the incident and later booked into jail on Penal Code (PC) 245 (Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 29800(a)(1) PC (Felon in possession of a firearm), and 3059 PC (Parole Hold). Moreno was being held on a $100,000.00 bond.
On August 8, 2015, Moreno posted bail and was released from jail wearing a GPS monitoring bracelet as part of his parole conditions.
On August 12, 2015 at 1:22 a.m., officers from IPD responded to Casa Las Valles Apartment regarding shots being fired in the area.
When officers arrived they discovered that a 20 year-old Hispanic female (same victim from the 7/25 incident) had been shot two times, once in the lower back and once in the left upper thigh area.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital where she remains in serious condition. IPD detectives immediately discovered that Moreno was the suspect in this shooting also.
Later that day a gunshot wound victim sought medical attention at a hospital outside of Indio. It was then discovered that Moreno had shot a second subject.
The male victim was outside the apartment with the female victim when Moreno appeared and began shooting at him striking him once in the upper shoulder area.
The male victim was treated for a non-life threatening injury and released from the hospital. During the investigation, two other victims came forwarded stating that Moreno had also fired at them on 8/12/15.
Moreno cut-off his GPS ankle bracelet after the incident and his whereabouts are unknown. The weapon used in the above incident is outstanding.
