Bicyclist dies in Cathedral City crash

A bicyclist was killed Saturday after he was hit by a vehicle around 9:20 a.m. at 69120 Ramon Road in Cathedral City, the intersection of Cathedral Village East, according to the Cathedral City Police Dept.

The 57-year-old man was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center where he later died. The driver of the involved vehicle was not hurt and was interviewed by officers at the scene.

CCPD said preliminary investigation suggests the bicyclist was riding east bound on the north sidewalk of Ramon Road when he abruptly turned south, rode off the sidewalk and rode into opposing west bound Ramon Road traffic when he was struck.

It appears alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor to the collision associated with the bicyclist, but not the driver of the motor vehicle.

Release of the victim’s name is pending notification to his family.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact the Cathedral City Police Department at (760)770-0303.
