Boat fire leads to small vegetation blaze near DHS

Cal Fire crews are mopping up after a boat caught fire near Desert Hot Springs, causing a small brush fire in the area of Cottonwood Drive, just west of Mountain View Road Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported just before noon and firefighters doused the flames in less than 30 minutes.

Officials said had the winds been worse, a row of tamarisk trees could have sparked a much larger fire in the area. Fortunately, weather wasn’t a factor and nobody was injured.

Firefighters remained on scene to make sure the fire didn’t flare up again.

The cause of the boat catching fire still remains a mystery at this time. Investigators are looking into the cause. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updated information following the investigation.
