More than 121 million people expected to shop on Cyber Monday

It’s the time of year when holiday shoppers are hoping to score some serious deals and steals.

Cyber Monday is upon us, which means many people will be monitoring their computers looking to snag some savings on anything from sweaters to tablets.

Many feel the extended shopping season is overwhelming.

“I drug my husband out for two hours on Black Friday and that was enough so he said do the rest online at home on Monday,” said Kat Lahaye, from Morongo Valley.

Holiday deals rolled out early this month, which some think might impact Cyber Monday.

“Cyber Monday started a month ago. It seems like every year the specials start creeping in and the email blasts come sooner and sooner,” said Carl Muhlstein, from Los Angeles.

The National Retail Federation predicts 121 million people plan to shop online Monday.

That’s down from 126 million people who shopped last Cyber Monday.

“Coming sooner, longer, more hours, more avenues, more places to shop, so it’s a state of mind rather than worrying about being somewhere to shop Monday,” Muhlstein said.

Here in Palm Springs some people said they’re going ignore the day.

“There were so many emails in my inbox, we just sort of threw them and got rid of them,” said Nancy Sohlstom.

Others said they’d rather shop online than fight crowds.

But they don’t like the way the season is changing.

“I think it’s gotten too materialistic. Like I said, I’m looking for a few specialty items but I hope to be done by tomorrow,” Lahaye said.

Regardless of those who avoid the holiday shopping marathon, this time of year is huge for retailers.

The NRF said this weekend alone 151 million people hit the stores or filled their shopping carts online.
