Lots of events to choose from in the Coachella Valley this weekend
Expect extra traffic on the roads and packed restaurants this Valentine’s Day weekend. Thousands of people are in the Coachella Valley enjoying several different events and activities.
Double decker buses are hitting the roads in and around Palm Springs. Over the next week thousands of people will take tours of mid-century modern architecture in the desert for Modernism Week.
“Palm Springs is known as the biggest center of mid-century modern architecture and design so this is the week to be here,” said Claire Leman who is visiting from Chicago for Modernism Week.
“I love the simple clean lines the lack of unnecessary decoration,” said Daniel Chernoff who was just about to hop on a tour bus.
Along with the tours at the community and meeting place (CAMP) for Modernism Week you can also see props and costumes from the hit show Mad Men along with other displays.
Just down a couple miles away at the Palm Springs Convention Center you can find the Palm Springs Modernism Show and the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair.
The art fair features works from more than 100 artists from around the world.
“These artists are here to talk to you about the work and you get to meet the guests artists who are here and traveled all over the world. This is a great opportunity to travel the world here within the Palm Springs Convention Center, we have galleries from New York, Venezuela, from Paris and all around the country,” said Donna Davies, Director Palm Springs Fine Art Fair.
“These are wonderful pieces that people can add to their collections and it’s nice for the people who can’t afford them be able to see them and appreciate them,” said Karen Hughes who was enjoying the fair.
It’ll cost you $20 to get into the art fair, but that price also includes all the lectures by the artists.
In the east valley, the 70th annual Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival is underway, with families bringing out the kids for some fun under the sun.
“We like to see all the people, have fun and all my kids have fun too, but I don’t get on the rides,” said Juan Gomez who brought his family to the fair.
In Indian Wells the 14th annual Doctor George Car Show will feature more than 900 cars. admission is your donation and benefits the Desert Cancer Foundation. The car show is the Coachella Valley’s largest and runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
