Cabs start to move toward Uber-like apps

Getting a ride anywhere in the Coachella Valley is now just a click away on your smart phone. And it’s not just services like Uber making it easier to catch a ride — now cabs are offering apps to help as well.

But is the added convenience really making your ride safer? Do you know who you’re getting in the car with?

With one viral bad ride to the next, getting in a stranger’s car or cab might not be that appealing. But, smartphone apps are helping keep drivers and passengers safe.

News Channel 3’s Megan Terlecky takes a look at what Uber and taxis are doing to keep you safe in a special report airing Wednesday at 11 p.m. on KESQ News Channel 3.
