Man falls to his death from skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles

A construction company spokeswoman says an electrician who fell 53 floors to his death from a downtown Los Angeles skyscraper was not supposed to be above the third floor of the project and had removed his hardhat beforehand.

Turner Construction spokeswoman Lisa Gritzner also said Thursday night that the man was not wearing a safety harness, and in fact hadn’t been issued one because his work did not require it.

Gritzner says all safety protocols were followed by the company.

She said she could say no more about what may have caused the man to fall. His name has not been released.

The man fell about 800 feet from the under-construction Wilshire Grand Center about noon Thursday onto a car in a busy intersection.
