5th annual American Documentary Film Festival kicks off

Seven films will be screened Thursday during the first day of the fifth annual American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Desert.

The first day of screenings will begin at 10 a.m. and be held at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert campus’ Oliphant Auditorium. The festival will continue through Monday. Films will also be shown at the Camelot Theatre in Palm Springs and Indian Wells Theatre.

The festival includes films from throughout the world. Panel discussions will be held Friday and Saturday focusing on how filmmakers can better craft stories, shoot and market their films.

A red carpet event will be held Thursday night, featuring an award presentation for director Joe Berlinger and a screening of his film “Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru.” Berlinger will receive the “Seeing the Bigger Picture” Award and conduct a question and answer session, along with Robbins.
