1 seriously injured after crash on Varner Road

Cal Fire and Indio police shut down Varner Road in both directions near Avenue 40 after a serious crash occurred Thursday morning.

The crash was reported at 11:15 AM. in the 79000 block of Varner Road, between Adams Street and Avenue 40. The roadway was closed in both directions as authorities investigated and the incident was still causing traffic issues early Thursday evening.

Authorities said a pickup truck hit a Mustang as the driver was pulling out of a car dealership in the area. The driver of the Mustang, who hasn’t been identified yet, was taken to the hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Dan Marshall said.

Officers said the driver of the pickup is cooperating with the investigation.

Officers asked drivers to avoid the area throughout Thursday afternoon as traffic was being diverted around the investigation. News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as soon as we hear back from police.
