Falcon recovered in Cathedral City school yard

A Peregrine falcon was retrieved in Cathedral City Thursday morning after a Riverside County Animal Services officer was called to the school yard at James Workman Middle School.

Authorities said Officer Eric Espejo was called to the school to recover the bird of prey because it appeared to have something wrong with it. Officer Espejo said it was hard to determine whether the bird was injured.

The falcon is expected to be taken to the Coachella Valley Wild Bird Center in Indio on Friday for rehabilitation.

The bird sanctuary is getting back to normal after thieves stole metal and copper wiring earlier this week, knocking out power to the facility.
