Vacant Home Catches Fire in Indio

CAL Fire is investigating a residential structure fire that sparked in Indio Wednesday night. It started just before 11 p.m. on the 43-800 Block of Smurr Street.

Twenty-seven firefighters and six engines put out the flames about an hour later.

CAL Fire tells us the house appears to be vacant. Some neighbors in the area say it’s possible homeless people were living there because it has been vacant for awhile.

A second house next to the one that caught fire was exposed to the flames. An elderly woman that lives in that home has been displaced. She will be staying with a friend, according to CAL fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
