Hikers hit the trails for the 3rd annual Richard M. Milanovich Legacy Hike

Hikers hit the trails Friday in honor of late Agua Caliente Tribal Chairman Richard Milanovich.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians kicked off the third annual Legacy Hike and and new 5K run in Palm Springs in the Indian Canyons.

Proceeds from the event benefit the fellowship program with George Washington University’s Native American Political Leadership Program.

It provides full scholarships for Native American, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian students who want to spend a semester in Washington.

Event organizers said creating educational opportunities was a key focus for Milanovich during his many decades of service to the tribe and they’re pleased to continue that vision.
