Valley students give back to foster care system

A group of adopted children at Cahuilla Elementary in Palm Springs are part of the Early Act Club at school. They know the impact a stuffed animal can make.

“We all have a stuffed animal and that helps us in life,” said 10-year-old Solange Signoret.

The Juvenile Court in Indio has a long standing tradition of giving stuffed animals to newly adopted children as a gift welcoming them to their new families. After finding out that donations were down, Signoret and the club decided to collect more than 400 stuffed animals for foster kids.

“I hope it reaches out to kids and shows that care is in the world for them,” Signoret said.

More than 2,000 children are in the foster care system in Riverside County. In a PSA, Supervisor John Benoit used Signoret’s family testimony to put a call out for more people to volunteer as foster families.
