Cool Down with a Cooling Center

“Being outside is like being in the oven cooking a cake, and it feels better to have frosting in the cool.” Carole Schaudt, a visitor of the Desert Hot Springs said.

The temperatures are continuing to rise, expected highs of 115 on Saturday and if you don’t have a way to escape the heat– area cooling centers could do the trick

“Important thing is that we are here so all residents know they have places to go to get out of the heat at anytime, at any place, and different locations across the country.” Brenda Freeman, the Executive Director stated.

With the National Weather Service issuing an excessive heat warning for the coming days, the county has asked all of their 53-cooling centers to open early, with all the doors opened by Friday.

“The cold centers this year are definitely growing, and we are really excited to mention that the wet and wild water park will be added to our cool center list this season.” Freeman added.

Great news for those locals that face the heat from dawn to dusk, like for Jose Robles.

“It takes a lot from your physical body, and also your mind. It is a lot different, first thing you want to do is go home and take a cold shower.”

There is no cost to enjoy the air conditioning and cold bottle of water, a great place to not only cool off, but possibly meet a friend or two.

“Also there is some friendliness which I think a lot of us need, espically when the weather gets the way it is and if there is other things that we need help in there is someone here that can help you.”
