Two former Palm Springs employees under police investigation
They are accused of inappropriate vehicle repairs, parts procurement, and theft of a surplus tractor. The potential value of this could range from 10 to 15 thousand dollars but the city took swift steps of action and want to continue their promise of openness with the city of Palm Springs.
“A couple of employees were we believe, taking some parts and doing some inappropriate things with service. The police department was involved immediately, along with the district attorney’s office and we wanted to make sure to let the community know.” David Ready, the City Manager of Palm Springs said.
With controversy looming in the department, the city made a commitment to openness with the it’s citizens, and the swift call of action was the first step.
“What is important is that we are open and transparent, make sure that everyone knows what we know and we want to go forward knowing that we have the best practices in place.” Ready added.
“Council is trying to set an entire tone throughout the city, not only talking about transparency and talking about openness but actually operating that way.” Mayor Robert Moon said.
Even going as far as bringing in outside resources to investigate.
“That’s why we gauged a national consultant firm that specializes in this. I want to make sure the best practices are there. We have several layers of checks and balances there that you can appreciate and in this case it worked so I am pleased about that.”
After talking with many area residents out here in Palm Springs, they say the city has a long way to go when it comes to trust.
“I think it’s going to take awhile for us to be able to trust the city itself.”
“With me trusting the city I think they are doing kind of good but they are not really doing the greatest job in the world either.”
“They actually need to do what they promise, don’t you think?”
