Man with assault rifle arrested in Coachella after entering neighbor’s home

The Coachella Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Third Street on Friday after receiving calls about a man carrying a rifle. The calls came in just after 2:30 p.m.

Officers said when they arrived to the suspect’s residence he had already ran from the scene and illegally entered a neighboring home occupied by a family.

Coachella police went after the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Coachella resident Joe Carrillo, and made an arrest shortly thereafter. Officers didn’t report any injuries during the incident.

Carrillo was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for being a felon in possession of an assault rifle and a high capacity magazine, according to the Coachella Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Coachella Police Department at 760-863-8990.
