Fighter jet crashes during training mission

An FA-18C Hornet crashed Tuesday during routine training near Naval Air Station Fallon, military officials said.

The pilot ejected from the military jet around 10:45 a.m. about 10 miles southeast of NASF, according to NASF public affairs specialist 1st Class Joseph Vincent. The aircraft was returning to base when the accident occurred.

The pilot has been taken to Banner Churchill Regional Medical Center on the military base, Vincent said. The condition of the unidentified pilot was unknown.

The F/A-18C Hornet was part of the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
