Unsupervised infant found submerged in Palm Desert bathtub

A seven-month-old child was found under water in a bath tub in Palm Desert Friday morning, and authorities said the infant was left unsupervised.

The near-drowning occurred at a home in the 49000 block of Mariposa Drive in the Ironwood Country Club at 10:36 a.m., according to officials. It’s unknown how long the child was submerged.

The baby is conscious and is being observed at the hospital.

Deputy Mike Vasquez with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said, “We received the call around 10:30 of a possible near drowning. We arrived on scene and medical staff was already there. The baby is conscious and an investigation regarding the child and circumstances are underway.”

Authorities haven’t released any additional information about the near-drowning at this time. KESQ and CBS Local 2 will deliver more details as the investigation continues.
