Firefighters called to Palm Desert house fire

Firefighters were called to a Palm Desert home early Monday morning where heavy smoke was reported.

24 firefighters from five engine companies were called to the 44600 of San Pablo Avenue at 5:40 a.m.

The home is in a neighborhood between Highway 111 and Fred Waring Drive.

Firefighters said the fire appeared to have started in a back patio area where there was a chair and a resident’s smoking area.

The fire was reported contained at 6:20 a.m. with minor extension.

One person suffered smoke inhalation injuries.

Firefighters were expected to remain on scene mopping up for approximately one hour.
