Eastbound I-10 traffic shut down in Desert Center for several hours

A semi-truck overturned on Interstate 10 in Desert Center Wednesday, spilling nearly 100 gallons of fuel into the roadway and halting eastbound traffic in the area.

The tractor trailer went off the roadway for unknown reasons just before 7:30 a.m., overturning in a dirt shoulder on eastbound I-10 at state Route 177. The truck driver sustained minor injuries, but was not taken to a hospital.

The California Highway Patrol reported that 60 to 80 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway and 20 gallons spilled on the dirt shoulder. A SigAlert was issued just before 8 a.m. and traffic was diverted around the crash scene.

The left lane of the eastbound 10 reopened just after 10 a.m., and the freeway
was estimated to fully reopen around 3 p.m.
