A busy intersection raises concerns from locals

The three way intersection at Mayfair Dr. and Beacon Hill in Palm Desert have been causing problems for local residents and business owners. Drivers have been running through stop signs like they’re not even there, in fact, one stop sign isn’t there. The missing stop sign has many concerned for their safety. Local business owner, Stephen Little, says the intersection is dangerous. The city of Palm Desert is not responding to maintenance calls. I found out the intersection is privately owned property, out of Palm Desert’s jurisdiction. Little says he hasn’t seen any steps taken to ensure a safer cross street, even after addressing the problem to the POA property manager and association. “They just, it’s just not important to them. The association was formed many, many years ago, before cars were even around…The association just has bigger fish to fry,” said Little. A representative of the association says she didn’t know about the problem until I brought it to her attention and that the missing stop sign will be replaced by Thursday night. “Hopefully the sheriff’s will spend some time hiding in the bushes over here and find a way to ticket people who violate the law,” said Little. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in Palm Desert says they cannot ticket traffic violators because of the POA guidelines, but they can patrol the area.
