Storm moves in to the Coachella Valley causing delays and cancellations

As the storm made it’s way to the California coast, some travelers were stuck dealing with delays, diverted planes and cancellations.

“It’s just frustrating because I don’t get home until about 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning in Atlanta. So it makes for a very, very long night,” Heidi Freed said.

Half of the UCLA gymnastics team had turbulence catching a flight to Salt Lake City for their match Saturday. They dealt with a canceled flight at the Burbank airport, then tried to catch a flight out of Palm Springs but were 15 minutes late. Ultimately, they had to get back on the road to take a flight Saturday morning in Ontario.

Many people attending Modernism Week at the Palm Springs Convention Center found rain pouring down outside.

“I think this is sort of exciting. I’ve never been to Palm Springs when it’s raining. This is a first for me,” Richard Mayberry said.

The wet weather had one homeowner cancel their home-viewing event for Modernism Week Friday night. Event officials said they plan to have all other events go on, rain or shine.

“Hopefully it will be a typical Palm Springs rain, just a light shower and it will move through. But our bus tours and our event at camp which is our headquarters will still go on,” Lisa Smith with Palm Springs Modernism Week said.

The Coachella Valley Water District said drivers should drive cautiously as road closures pop up near the wash.
