People brace for wet weather

Southern California is off to a wet weekend and people in the Valley are seeing affects from the storm system.

More than 1,200 people were left without power in Palm Desert and Cathedral City.

“Oh it sucks. You can’t open up your fridge, there’s no Wi-Fi, so all kinds of fun like that,” said one Cathedral City resident in response to the power outage.

Motorists made their way through light flooding at the Cathedral Canyon wash and one road was closed in Desert Hot Springs due to flooding.

But the wet weather didn’t stop some people from their Saturday plans.

Organizers for the annual Alzheimer’s Walk in Palm Desert said the walk will go on, rain or shine —

“People call us and say, ‘we’ll be there no matter what. ‘I’ll bring my rain coat’ and all these are sponsors behind us and they’re all prepared, they don’t care if it’s wet”.

Hundreds took advantage of the smaller crowds at the Riverside County Date Festival.

“All of our rides are still open and our shows are taking place, so it’s a great time to come out ’cause our lines are so short right now, so you can enjoy the fun aspects of the fair without having to wait as long as you normally would have to,” said one fair employee.
