Crowds attend President’s Day parade in Indio
The sounds of marching bands filled the streets of downtown Indio Monday as part of the President’s Day Grand Parade. Approximately 80 participants marched down the streets in celebration of the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival.
One school that participated was the Shadow Hills High School marching band. A colorguard member said she enjoyed the community encouragement and support during the parade.
“At the end of it, when people are complimenting you at the end of it ‘oh you did so good!’, it’s definitely worth it,” Kennedy Russell, a freshman, said.
Crowds cheered local leaders such as Congressman Raul Ruiz and State Senator Jeff Stone as well as dignitaries such as Grand Marshal Joe Mantegna, an actor on the hit show Criminal Minds.
“I like it when they do things downtown that involve the community and just something fun and clean that gets people excited,” Aleena Spradlin of Indio said.
Some parade-goers said they simply wanted to enjoy the hard work of the young musicians.
“You know, every time I come to a parade…I have to kind of march secretly,” Mary Cervantes of Thermal said. “I mark time. I love it, love parades.”
