Valley mom updates 5-year old girl’s cancer fight

Results of a telling series of tests were given today to a La Quinta family whose daughter has battled an aggressive form of cancer since the summer.

“Thankful, grateful and blessed,” says Kristin Sherman, to get some very good news about her 5 year old daughter Riley.

Riley Rose Sherman was diagnosed with stage four neuroblastoma and learned Wednesday that there’s no evidence of disease, or NED.

Kristin Sherman says they’ll celebrate with pizza as a family and watching movies, but it’s back to work fighting neuroblastoma in just over a week.

“Neuroblastoma has a 50 percent relapse rate,” explains Sherman. Riley still has radiation, two transplants and six months of immunotherapy to come, which means the family will continue their trips to Children’s Hospital Orange county until at least Thanksgiving.

“As soon as (Riley’s) done with that, she does another course of treatment, which is a two year treatment plan to prevent relapse, which includes frequent scans and medication,” says Sherman.

Riley was scheduled to start kindergarten last fall at Sacred Heart School in Palm Desert.
