Semi crash damages I-10 bridge

Crews were working to upright a big rig semi truck early Thursday morning after it went off Interstate 10 and overturned east of the Coachella Valley.

Update: Big rig driver arrested for alleged DUI from early morning crash

The crash was reported near Chiriaco Summit at 1:31 a.m. along the west bound lanes of I-10.

The California Highway Patrol said the truck hit a concrete wall near the box canyon exit and spreading debris across the roadway.

A motorist in a passing SUV then hit the debris causing it to go a hundred feet off the road and into the shoulder of the freeway’s eastbound lanes.

Three people were in that SUV. None were injured.

No one was hurt, and no major backups were reported.

One lane remained closed along the westbound lanes as crews worked to upright the big truck and make extensive repairs to the bridge.
