Locals content with rainfall in the Coachella Valley

It’s been a wet winter in the Coachella Valley, and the rain continued to fall throughout the day on Monday.

Traffic on Interstate-10 in the area remained fluid despite the fact that as of 4 p.m., the California Highway Patrol had responded to 13 accidents. As of 6 p.m., rain was still falling in Thousand Palms where gutters and dips in the roadways were beginning to flood.

The recent storm, however, did not seem to slow anyone down.

“People don’t know how to drive in the rain here. We never have it,” said Joyce Copeland of Indio Hills. “I think it’s actually been pretty good. My kids live up in Santa Clarita and they’ve had it bad there because they’ve had mud slides, everything. We don’t have that here.”

One man, who was walking to an area bus stop, told KESQ News Channel 3’s and CBS Local 2’s Katie Widner that it would take a couple more years before he would become sick of the rain.

The CHP reminds drivers to slow down and take their time while roadways are slick.

KESQ and CBS Local 2’s First Alert Weather Team is tracking the storm. We’ll have live weather updates throughout the evening to make sure you’re prepared.
