Police identify 22-year-old woman killed in DHS crash

A woman was killed and two others were injured in an early morning crash in Desert Hot Springs on Friday, which trapped the injured victims, forcing firefighters to cut them from the wreckage.

The coroner’s office said 22-year-old Taryn Rogers of Desert Hot Springs was killed in the crash.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 5:16 a.m. at the intersection of Palm Drive and Camino Campanero, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department. Responding fire crews found at the scene and two people trapped in the wreckage. Firefighters extricated both victims from one of the cars, one with major injuries and the other with moderate injuries, Newman said.

Rogers was the driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle involved, according to Desert Hot Springs Detective Christopher Saucier. The two injured victims were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where they were expected to recover, Saucier said.

Palm Drive was closed to traffic from Camino Campanero to Dillon Road for about six hours. Moments after the road was reopened, a four-car crash occurred in the same area of Palm Drive, forcing police to shut down northbound lanes for about another hour or so.

The cause of the deadly crash remained under investigation, according to the detective.

Rogers’ family and friends have set up a gofundme page to help pay for funeral expenses.
