Police warn iPhone users about dangerous prank involving ‘Siri’

Police across the United States are warning iPhone users about a potentially dangerous prank that’s been circulating on social media.

Social media posts encouraging iPhone users to ask Siri to dial the number ‘108’ for a joke or fun. This actually instructs the phone to call emergency services.

You may have seen posts like this in your own social media feeds.

Similar to 911, the number 108 is the number for emergency services in India.

Siri will say, “Calling Emergency Services in five seconds”, if you dial 108. Police said this prank is tying up emergency call centers, according to CBS News.

The National Emergency Number Association estimates 240 million calls are made to 911 in the U.S. each year, the majority from wireless devices.

Make sure you’re not adding to the problem by falling for the prank.
