Power restored in Palm Springs after multiple outages caused by wind

Update: Southern California Edison is reporting that all customers who were without power in Palm Springs are now back to business. 132 customers in Palm Springs were still without power early Tuesday morning. That outage affected homes and traffic signals in the north Downtown area.

Tuesday 8AM:

Three power outages caused by stormy conditions affected more than 1,000 Southern California Edison customers in Palm Springs Monday night. Windy conditions downed power lines on Alejo Road, west of Palm Canyon Drive.

As of Tuesday morning, SCE officials reported only 131 customers were still without power. But power is expected to be restored by 10 a.m.

Monday Report:

115 customers in North Palm Springs and 7 customers in downtown Palm Springs have no power because of outages. According to Southern California Edison, these outages started at 4:32 p.m. At one point, there was a third outage in south Palm Springs that affected over 1,000 customers, but power has been restored in the area.

The power outage forced some businesses on Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon in downtown to close.

“I am surprised it is so windy, I have lived here 20 years and I have never seen is so windy that it has knocked down the lines like this,” said Brad Listermann who was picking up his daughter from a school that had lost power.

The estimated time for power to be restored in the city is 7:00 a.m., according to Southern California Edison. Crews are working in the area.
