Veterans University to break down the basics of military resources

The second annual Veterans University will be held on Saturday, May 20 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Register for 2nd annual Veterans University Veterans University is a day-long conference hosted for veterans, service members, their families, and anyone else who is interested in learning more about resources for veterans.

Jeremy Nussbaum is an Army veteran who attended Veterans University last year. He says the conference simplifies what can otherwise be a lengthy process in finding ways to access benefits.

“I mean there’s a lot of paperwork when you’re dealing with anything government wise, and there’s different agencies for different things, and what Veteran’s University does is it brings it all together at one stop,” said Nussbaum. “If a veteran has a question on health, boom go straight to health, if the veteran has a question on transportation, maybe getting to Loma Linda, that will be answered there too. You have the congressman there too, it’s a huge benefit. Veterans can actually get stuff done out here.”

Participants will have the option of attending a number of classroom-like series, which will provide detailed information about specific services.

According to organizers, presenters will discuss:

Healthcare and disability benefits Mental health, transportation, and employment resources for veterans

“They’re going to be talking about different VA benefits. How to get into the health care system with a VA, breakouts for education, dealing with the GI bill, that’s what I’m talking about. Finding jobs, transportation, just a different array of things, but the main thing is benefits, said Donni Prince, VA education benefits speaker.

“Without this..what it is, you’re going to have to drive who knows where to get the answers, you’re going to end up going to Indio, Loma Linda, so basically this makes it a lot easier, so every veteran will come and knock out maybe two, three different issues in Palm Springs at the convention center,” said Nussbaum.

People are encouraged to register online but are welcome to attend without RSVP. Check-in time for the event starts at 8:30 a.m. The program starts at 9 a.m.

The conference is hosted by U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz, M.D., and is sponsored by CBS Local 2 & KESQ News Channel 3. CBS Local 2’s morning anchor Tom Tucker will be co-hosting.

Anyone with questions can call Ruiz’s office at (760) 424-8888.
