Wanted parolee accused of crashing stolen car into palm tree arrested by PSPD
The Palm Springs Police Department took a man into custody Thursday morning when he allegedly ran away after crashing into a palm tree and stone mailbox in front of someone’s house.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old George Avilez of Desert Hot Springs. Avilez was a wanted parolee and Sgt. Hutchinson with P.S.P.D. said he was arrested on that charge. The car was also stolen, but officers could not tie Avilez to the car crash at this time.
According to Sgt. Hutchinson, the accident happened just after 10:30 a.m. in the 2200 block of Whitewater Club Drive.
Residents in the neighborhood called police to say the man was trying to get into an empty house and ran down the street after the crash happened. Officers ended up locating the suspect on Volturno Road near E. Via Escuela a short time later, according to PSPD.
Information about the suspect hasn’t been released yet. KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 will deliver updates as soon as we hear back from the Palm Springs Police Department.
