‘Bachelorette’ date comes to Coachella Valley

Will you accept this rose? That’s the question “The Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay will ask a lucky few men, hoping one will eventually get down on one knee.

But before that, she’s got to go on a few dates, with one taking place right in our backyard at the Palm Springs home of actor Kirk Douglas. Rachel chose business owner Peter Kraus for their first one-on-one date to Bark-fest, a festival for four-legged friends.

“Peter is someone who sparked my interest from the very beginning. I was very intrigued by him and today it didn’t let me down. We were having such a good time, the chemistry is amazing and I’m so excited to see where this can go,” Rachel said.

The two spent the day with Rachel’s dog Copper, who despite his broken toe, had a blast in Coachella Valley with his pooch pals. Rachel says Copper’s approval is almost as important as her own.

“I’m so happy to have him with me on this journey and helping me pick the perfect guy for me,” Rachel said.

Peter says he doesn’t have a secret weapon for winning Rachel’s heart, he’s just trying to stay true to himself.

“She is the easiest person I’ve ever gotten along with. As far as ease of conversation, the things we’ve talked about, Rachel has been fantastic from the moment we started talking this morning, until now. I mean it’s been great,” Kraus said.

This date was full of firsts for Rachel. First one on one date, first time to a dog-themed music festival, and first time to Palm Springs. But Rachel herself is a first, being the first African-American lead in the show’s history. She says it’s a humbling experience.

“I’m so happy to represent myself as an African-American woman and for them to see my journey for love is no different. I just happen to be a woman of color,” Lindsay said.

While Rachel isn’t new to the world of reality TV, a finalist on last season’s “Bachelor,” she says she’s glad she’s in control this time.

“It’s so weird to be in the drivers seat. I’m not gonna lie. It feels good to be in control, but it’s also scary you know. You’re the one making the decisions. You’re the one sending people home,” Lindsay said.

Rachel feeling confident this time she’s going to find love.
