Retired CDC Director to speak to students at CSUSB Palm Desert

Janet Collins, the retired director of the Centers for Disease Control, will speak to students at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert campus today.

Collins’ 4 p.m. talk is the final event for the campus’s “Lessons From Leaders” class, which features a different business, nonprofit or government leader each week, offering stories of their professional lives and personal
advice to the students.

During her 27-year career at the Centers for Disease Control, Collins led CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB. She also served as director for CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and
Obesity, and served on CDC’s executive leadership team.

After retiring in January 2016, she has continued to serve on the national board of directors for the YMCA of the USA, the board of directors for HealthMPowers in Atlanta and Health Assessment and Research for Communities (HARC) in Palm Desert.
