Police looking for driver following late night chase

Police are looking for a driver involved in a chase that ended in a crash in Desert Hot Springs Friday night.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies said a driver and two passengers led Desert Hot Springs police on a chase late Friday night. The car then crashed near the intersection of Mountain View and Avenue 20. The man driving fled the scene of the crash.

Desert Hot Springs Police officers said one of the three people inside the car was taken into custody. According to officers, that person said they were shot at in Desert Hot Springs. Police are investigating that allegation.

Officers said during the pursuit an assault rifle was tossed from the vehicle and recovered. They said they believe no shots were fired at officers.
