Former LA mayor joins Assemblyman Garcia for talks to preserve the Salton Sea
Friday morning at the North Shore Yacht Club, local Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia summoned key stakeholders for a roundtable discussion on state and regional efforts to preserve the Salton Sea.

Former Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who’s looking to become governor of California, said we can’t allow the Coachella Valley to become a dust bowl.
“There’s a plan, it costs about $380 million, that the state can contribute,” said Villaraigosa. “And I’m committed to doing that,” he added.
We spoke to Coachella Valley Unified School District Board Member Maria Machuca as she was at the roundtable discussion Friday morning.
Machuca said, “I feel very relieved and confident that he [Villaraigosa] will keep his promise and that he will have the Coachella Valley in mind if he does claim a victory in the governor’s seat.”
Officials said the proposed plan will focus on protecting the public health of valley residents.
