Twentynine Palms man sought for attempted kidnapping of teen

A Twentynine Palms man is wanted by authorities after a teen girl said he followed her into her home and tried to kidnap her.

The 14-year-old told San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies that a man, now identified as Freddie Day, asked her for help to jump start a quad outside her Twentynine Palms highway home.

The girl said she could not assist, and there was no one else at her home. She says the man walked away, and she went inside. “As she entered her bedroom, she realized Day had entered her residence and was standing behind her,” investigators said in a news release.

Day told the teenager he “could have raped and killed her.” according to investigators. He then grabbed her and “bear hugged” her. She grabbed him by the throat, deputies say, “causing Day to release his grasp.”

The teen girl made it into the kitchen, where she got hold of a knife. The attacker fled, heading eastbound towards the desert.

Investigators say neighbors confirmed seeing Day in the area, but he was not found despite an extensive search in the area.

If you know where Freddie Day is or may be, you are asked to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Morongo Basin station at 760-366-4175.
