Annual event honoring veterans opens this weekend in Cathedral City

The 12th annual Healing Field, a weeklong memorial honoring veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice, will open to the public on Sunday in Cathedral City.

Thousands of American flags will dot Patriot Park, with each flag bearing the name, age, rank and service branch of a fallen soldier, including those hailing from the Coachella Valley.

At the 9 a.m. opening ceremony, flags will be placed in honor of fallen military members whose names will be read. The Cathedral City High School Band will perform.

The Healing Field will be open to the public through Nov. 12, with a Taps bugle call every evening at 5 p.m.
