Drag Queen says hotel cancelled his show because of his sexual orientation

For the last eight months, Arial Trampway could be seen every Sunday at the Hard Rock Hotel in Palm Springs performing at her drag brunch.

“It’s lip syncing, we had some live singers. We would bring in the RuPaul girls from LA and try to incorporate some local girls as well,” Arial Trampway said.

In July, Arial says she and the hotel started contract negotiations. Then, Arial says her show got moved to an upstairs part of the hotel.

“We didn’t really get the support we needed up there. We were promised curtains and ‘we’d fit this to make it worthy of your show’, and we were basically given a riser,” she said.

About two weeks ago, she found out the show was canceled.

“I have heard from upper management directly that some of the owners said they didn’t want their hotel to become a gay hotel. This comes from upper management,” Arial said.

Arial tells us it was local management who brought the show in and were excited about it. She says it was upper management and one of the owners who wanted it to go. She also says the local management who brought her in have since been fired for unknown reasons.

“I love Palm Springs. I’m looking forward to getting a show again and to entertaining the masses as I always have,” she said.

Arial has filed a complaint with the Department of Fair Employment and Housing and has plans to file a lawsuit. I reached out to the Hard Rock Hotel and they sent me this statement: “For more than 40 years, Hard Rock International has maintained its “Love All, Serve All” philosophy throughout its worldwide network of Hard Rock Cafes, Hard Rock Hotels & Casinos and Hard Rock Live venues, and operates in accordance with a non-discrimination policy on the basis of gender, race, age, veteran status, sexual orientation or any other protected class.

As Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs is always looking to provide guests with unparalleled entertainment, the hotel changes its entertainment calendar on a regular basis. As this is pending litigation, Hard Rock has no further comment.”
