Busy Thanksgiving Weekend Travel Expected

Millions of people are expected to hit the road to spend the day with relatives and friends. This holiday travel season could likely be the busiest in a while.

According to AAA nearly 51 million Americans will be traveling this Thanksgiving, with about 45 million of them doing so by car. This travel season would be the busiest in 12 years and AAA says a strong economy and labor market are generating rising incomes is contributing to the increased travel volume.

About four million travelers will be flying to their destination, an increase of five percent from last year. The Palm Springs Airport reported about 202 thousand passengers came through either arriving or departing for the month of November, and represents a significant rise from the month before. In anticipation of the higher volume of travelers during the holiday weekend, the airport has now expanded it’s parking by opening it’s economy lots.

Here are some tips to keep in mind for the holiday travel from AAA. Make sure to arrive at least two hours at the airport in order to get through security. Download your airline’s app to track your baggage and get a heads up if your flight is delayed or cancelled. Use websites like Travelocity to get a cheaper rate on rental cars as rates are expected to hit a five year high. Check weather forecasts before hitting the road as well as the traffic report.
