Close friends reveal new details about murder of mother by her son

“Palm Springs has lost an amazing woman who without accolades made it all happen,” this is how Laurie Abramson describes her close friend Amber Lane.

The Palm Springs community has been left reeling after the death of 36-year-old Lane. Her son, 19-year-old Brian Conroy is accused of her murder.

Her friends were her family, her family were her friends, there was no difference for her,” Abramson said. “She had a huge smile that would never stop. She loved life, she loved what she did and it was impossible to not love her.”

Friends of Lane’s gathered together Tuesday night to honor her, some revealing new details about what they believe could have lead up to Lane’s death.

“I think all 19-year-olds have mental health issues, it goes with the territory and some deal with them and some have breaks and it would seem at this point, this is what happened with Brian,” Abramson said.

Lonnie Landers, CEO of the Palm Springs restaurant and music venue “Wangs of the Desert,” where Lane, her husband, and her son all worked for years, is, like so many others, shocked.

“They were so close, just tight and never an argument between the two of them ever. so this is just bizarre,” Landers said.

Landers said that Lane had confided in a friend the night of the shooting that Conroy might try to hurt himself, but was not afraid of him. He says just hours later, Conroy snapped.

“Later that night he came into the room, pulled the gun from the nightstand and just shot her. shot her in the dark,” Landers said.

Even after Conroy was arrested, friends of the family say they will continue to stand by him.

“I will say I support Brian, the Brian that did this is not the Brian we know and love and I and many others will be standing by him. This is not malicious this was not an evil angry kid something snapped,” Abramson said.

“He loved his mom, he really did and his mom loved him,” said Kesha, a family friend.

Wang’s in the Desert will host a tribute event to Amber Lane this Sunday from 5 pm to 8 pm.
