Small business Saturday preview

There’s a lot of options to spend your holiday shopping dollar this season but the greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you to shop local.

“This shopping season, make the decision that helps us all. Choose your community,” said Joshua Bonner, President of the GCVCC.

The American Independent Business Alliance said in a recent report that 48 percent of each purchase at a small business is recirculated into the local economy.

“I personally like to buy local because I know what it takes to invest in Palm Springs. So again, if i can give back to the local community I try as much as possible,” said Willie Rhine, co-owner of 849 Restaurant and Lounge.

A challenge for small businesses are online retailers such as Amazon or other big box stores.

“It’s Black Friday, we know that a lot of people are shopping online. A lot of Amazon shoppers but it seems like with golf people want to get their hands on the product,” said Channing Benjamin, store manager for Roger Dunn Golf Snack.

So this holiday season why not walk in to a local business and make an impact on your community.
